Matti Klenell, born 1972, is a designer who’s been acclaimed for his innovative contributions to the evolution of Scandinavian design. He's working wide with different materials but do often return to glass as a way of expression. His work is always based on being thorough - from the start of any project with in-depth research, through the project, until achieving a final and optimal end result. A greater context is always present in Matti's design. He considers the target group, their needs, and the purpose of what’s being created. Regardless of the task at hand he approaches it with curiosity and the challenge of bringing life to his subjects. The result is that his carefully designed products are characterised by form, function and personality.
Matti studied at the department of Design, Interior Architecture and Visual Communication at the University of Arts, Crafts and Design 1994-1999. He also studied at The Royal Academy of Architecture in Copenhagen 1997. He has received several awards, such as “Designer of the Year” from Residence Magazine 2018, and EDIDA Swedish Design Award four times. His work is also represented at several museums such as Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, Röhsska: Museum of Design and Craft in Gothenburg and Designmuseum Denmark.
